Steve Geiger - Marvel, DC, Valiant/Acclaim, Neal Adams’ Continuity and more

Steve Geiger is a professional comic book artist, and has worked with comic heavyweights Marvel, DC, Valiant/Acclaim, Neal Adams’ Continuity, Penthouse Comix, and many others throughout his career. A regular artist on comics like Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Bloodshot, Scion, Lorelei, and Samuree, Steve has also illustrated covers and single issues (“One Shot”) for a number of titles, including The X-men, Punisher: War Journal, The Fantastic Four, Batman, and many others. The groundbreaking Superhero/Cyberjournalist comic strip Chip Tracer, for New York Newsday, has won numerous Newspaper Design and Illustration awards.

Steve and his wife, Kristy, run The EvilGeiger Empire, an entertainment development company that creates, implements, and produces original content and creator-owned characters. His comic book career began when he was 22 years old when he was hired as the third Romita Raider, an art apprentice program at Marvel Comics, after graduating from Buffalo State University with a dual major in Illustration and Advertising Design. Marvel Art Director John Romita Sr. hand-picked a small, select group of apprentices to become Romita’s Raiders.

As an apprentice, Steve learned the ins and outs of the comic book industry. During his summer as an apprentice, he published his first work, Power Man/Iron Fist, which led to a professional relationship with editor Denny O’Neil and a regular work assignment on Sectaurs, a toy-centric comic. Steve began a comic book career that has spanned several decades as Sectaurs reached its end, earning him penciling duties for The Incredible Hulk. Following his successful stints on Hulk and Web of Spiderman, Steve created covers for DC (two historic Batman covers, featuring Jason Todd’s first appearance as Robin) and Continuity Comics (Samuree), where he collaborated with Neal Adams, his idol and second mentor. Additionally, Steve gained experience as a storyboarder and ad composition illustrator in college and during his early years in NYC (Grey, Geers Gross, Cato Johnson, Benton and Bowles, TBWA) as well as as a comic artist.

He was able to work simultaneously in both fields during his time at Continuity. As well as working on Samaree, Steve also worked on some of Neal Adams’ biggest advertising clients, including some of the first animated storyboards of their kind. In May of 1990, Steve joined Marvel Comics as Managing Art Director after leaving Continuity to work on staff at the TBWA advertising agency. However, two years after leaving, he was called back to Marvel Comics. Among his duties were: Final approval of all cover art; design, and final approval of all merchandise featuring Marvel characters; Working directly under Senior Art Director John Romita.

Steve Geiger’s current projects include: Beacon, Paradox,Old Man of the Mountain and Aurora for T3 Comics, Bender, Haunted Tales of Bachelors Grove for Silver Phoenix Comics, Gabriel Damascus; Cutter, and Plowboy in the Cornmeal Universe with Hollywood Animation.
