Steve Lavigne is an American comic book illustrator best known for his work on the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (TMNT) series for Mirage Studios. Born on September 22 in Maine, Lavigne attended Westbrook High School with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman. He began his career at Mirage Studios in 1985, becoming the first full-time artist hired by Eastman and Peter Laird. Lavigne’s contributions to the TMNT series include lettering, coloring, and creating iconic characters like Cudley the Cowlick, Sgt. Bananas, and Stump and Sling.

Steve Lavigne co-founded Shellback Artworks, a comic book shop and art gallery in Wells, Maine, which operated from 2012 to 2016. The shop has since transitioned to an online presence, where fans can view his current art projects, con schedule, and purchase vintage and new comics, art, and memorabilia. Lavigne continues to create covers for IDW Publishing’s TMNT comics and regularly participates in comic conventions, signing books and taking commission work.

His involvement in the comic book community extends to his participation in the drafting of the Creators’ Bill of Rights, which aims to protect the rights of comic book creators. Lavigne’s diverse contributions to the industry and his ongoing engagement with fans highlight his lasting impact on the world of comics.
