Zilch is a tribute band that celebrates the music and legacy of the Monkees, the iconic pop-rock group that starred in their own TV show in the 1960s. Created in 2016 after being inspired by a Monkees marathon on MeTV, David Tessier recruited members of his band of all stars to play the Monkees’ hits and deep cuts with accuracy and enthusiasm.
They aren’t just a cover band, but a tribute to the Monkees’ spirit and humor. The band members dress up in the Monkees’ signature outfits and hairstyles, and perform with energy and charisma. They also interact with the audience and incorporate comedy bits and trivia into their shows. The band aims to recreate the fun and nostalgia of watching the Monkees on TV or listening to their records.
Zilch has a repertoire of over 30 songs from the Monkees’ catalog, ranging from their early classics like “(Theme from) The Monkees”, “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I’m a Believer”, to their later psychedelic gems like “Porpoise Song” and “Circle Sky”. They also play some songs that the Monkees never played live, such as “All Of Your Toys” and “Riu Riu Chiu” – including some songs from the Monkees’ recent albums, such as “Me and Magdelena” from 2016.
Zilch has performed at various venues and events across New England, and have shared the stage with other tribute bands honoring the Beatles, Badfinger, ELO and more. They have also played at a Monkees fan convention in North Haven, Connecticut, where they impressed die-hard fans with their authenticity and passion.
Don’t miss their live performance on the Courtyard Stage Friday, June 30 at 7:15pm! Zilch is New England’s #1 Monkees tribute band, and they invite everyone to join them in celebrating the music and legacy of the Monkees.
