Are you ready for the ultimate fan experience? Look no further than the NorthEast ComicCon & Collectibles Extravaganza! This year, the event is set to be even more exciting with the return of the talented and acclaimed artist, Marianne Plumridge. Known for her unique blend of nature and technology in her artwork, as well as her interest in figurative works and portraits, Plumridge will be debuting new original pieces, prints, and books, and offering commissions at the event.
But that’s not all – Plumridge is a multi-talented artist and writer, with a background in fine art and a love for science fiction and fantasy. Along with her husband, illustrator Bob Eggleton, she has created a variety of works, including children’s books, essays, and even a cover for Analog Science Fiction & Fact.
Question: Thank you for joining us today, Marianne. It is always fantastic when you come to the NorthEast ComicCon, Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in the world of art?
Marianne Plumridge: Of course. I’m an Australian-born artist, and I’ve been painting in oils since I was 12 years old. I’ve always had a love for science fiction and fantasy, and that’s reflected in my work. I’ve dabbled in different mediums over the years, but I always come back to oil painting.
Q: Your work is definitely unique, blending elements of nature and technology in your paintings. Can you tell us more about your “Birds ‘n’ Bots” series?
MP: The “Birds ‘n’ Bots” series is something I’ve been working on for a few years now. It’s a combination of my love for birds and my love for robots. I try to imagine what it would be like if these two seemingly disparate worlds collided, and I think the results are quite interesting.
Q: You also have a background in writing, with a children’s book “If Dinosaurs Lived In My Town” illustrated by your husband, Bob Eggleton. Can you tell us a bit about that experience?
MP: It was a lot of fun working on that book with Bob. We’ve been working together for a long time, and we have a great creative partnership. The book is about a town where dinosaurs never went extinct, and it explores all the different ways that people and dinosaurs might interact. It was a great opportunity to combine our love for dinosaurs and our love for storytelling.
Q: Your work has been recognized by many in the industry, with awards such as the ASFMA Award for Best Media Fan Artist and a Ditmar Award nomination. How does it feel to be recognized in this way?
MP: It’s always an honor to be recognized by your peers and fans. I’ve been working in this industry for a long time, and it’s always nice to know that people appreciate the work that I do.
Q: Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us, Marianne. We can’t wait to see your new work at the NorthEast ComicCon & Collectibles Extravaganza!
MP: Thank you for having me. I’m looking forward to it too!
