Lego Master Liz Puleo: Building Bricks & Crafting Narratives at NEComicCon

As a child, Lego wasn’t initially Liz Puleo’s primary hobby. She grew up surrounded by Lego bricks, but they belonged to her older brother. Despite her fascination, she’d often get scolded for playing with his Lego sets. Liz explored other creative outlets like crocheting, cake decorating, painting, and cross-stitching. However, when her own children developed an interest in Lego, her dormant passion for building with these colorful bricks was reignited. Late nights spent constructing intricate designs became the norm, especially since her son, who is autistic, found solace in Lego. Liz’s journey from Lego enthusiast to Lego Master began here.

The enthusiasm Liz Puleo has for Lego led her to connect with other Adult Fans of Lego (AFOLs) online and in person. She discovered a vibrant community that shared her passion. Her husband even gifted her the Disney castle Lego set one Christmas, a delightful surprise that she and her brother both received simultaneously. But it was her original design of Elsa’s castle from the Disney movie “Frozen” that catapulted her into the spotlight. Winning a Lego building competition with her magical creation caught the attention of the producers of the Fox television series “Lego Masters.” Soon, Liz found herself competing on national television, vying for the top prize of $100,000.

Liz Puleo thrives under competition and pressure. Her creativity shines when faced with challenges. She doesn’t start her builds until the last minute because too much time overwhelms her. The rush of the competition brings out her best work. Her journey on “Lego Masters” has been exhilarating, and she embraces each challenge with enthusiasm. Liz’s competitive spirit and love for Lego have made her a formidable contestant on the show, where she collaborates with her teammate, Erin Laundry, another Massachusetts resident.

Liz’s standout moment came when she constructed Elsa’s castle with lights, complete with a motorized Elsa figurine casting ice magic. Dressed as Elsa during the competition, she combined creativity, technical skill, and a touch of humor. Her journey from building Lego creations at home to competing on a nationally broadcast show is a testament to her dedication and passion. Liz Puleo continues to inspire Lego enthusiasts worldwide, proving that imagination and plastic bricks can lead to extraordinary adventures.

Liz Puleo’s story reminds us that sometimes the most magical worlds are built one Lego brick at a time.
