For nearly three decades, Jeff Kline has been one of the fortunate few “genre nerds” able to move freely between primetime and daytime television, motion pictures and the Web; the boardroom and the bullpen; and the east and west coasts. He’s written/produced more than 1,000 episodes of programming to-date. And, most recently, formed Darby Pop Publishing expressly so he could play in the comic book “sandbox” with some of his most creative pals.
Founded in 2013 by multiple Emmy Award winning writer/producer Jeff Kline (TRANSFORMERS: PRIME, G.I. JOE RENEGADES, JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES) Darby Pop Publishing was created as an outlet for high-concept, high-quality visual storytelling. Kline recruited talent from a small circle of friends — writers and artists with whom he’d worked in both live-action and animation — by asking: “Have you ever had an idea you were convinced would make a killer comic book?”
Comics legend Howard Chaykin, Eisner Award winner Andrew Robinson, Emmy Award winners Jose Lopez, David Hartman, and Walter Gatus, Bernard Chang, Tony Fleecs and many others have delivered cover art. And interiors have been laid out and/or drawn by a number of TRANSFORMERS series veterans (among many other talented artists) including Brandon McKinney, Kirk Van Wormer, Kevin Altieri, and Matthew Humphreys.
Former Marvel and Top Cow editor David Wohl helped with the company’s start-up; industry veteran Renae Geerlings is Darby Pop Publishing’s current Managing Editor.
Jeff Kline has been quoted as saying: “It seems like a lot of people currently working in the comic book industry are hoping to use the experience as a stepping stone to movies or television. At Darby Pop Publishing, most of our talent is already well-established in those fields; they desperately WANT to be making comics!”
As both a writer and showrunner, Jeff Kline has been responsible for more than 40 animated and live-action series, specials, and pilots. Most recently, he was the executive producer and co-developer of TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE (Cartoon Network) – a follow-up to his multiple Daytime Emmy® Award-winning CG series, TRANSFORMERS: PRIME (The Hub).
Over the past few years, Jeff Kline also co-developed and executive produced both TRANSFORMERS: RESCUE BOTS and G.I. JOE: RENEGADES for Hasbro Studios and The Hub as part of an exclusive multi-year pact.
Previously, Jeff Kline was executive producer of a slew of fan-favorite series including THAT WAS THEN (ABC), MY FRIENDS TIGGER AND POOH (Disney Playhouse), JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES (Kids WB), MEN IN BLACK: THE ANIMATED SERIES (Kids WB), EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS (BKN), DRAGON TALES (PBS), and HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON (HBO Family).
