In 1977, Barrence enrolled at Boston University to study journalism. While in school, he worked in a record shop, where his singing was heard by musician Peter Greenberg of The Lyres. He began performing with Greenberg and former members of the Lyres as Barrence Whitfield & the Savages. The band released their debut album, “Hillbilly Voodoo”, in 1983. The album was a critical and commercial success, and helped to establish Whitfield as a leading figure in the Boston music scene.
He has continued to release albums and tour with the Savages throughout his career. He has also released several solo albums, and has collaborated with a number of other artists, including John Cale, Warren Zevon, and Lydia Lunch. Whitfield is a highly respected vocalist, and his raw, energetic performances have won him a loyal following of fans around the world.
In terms of soulful renditions, Barrence’s is unmatched. His songs stir the souls of his listeners with every note he sings. It’s a refreshing departure from the norm, and it’s a testament to Barrence’s versatility as an artist. He’s not just a singer; he’s a performer, an artist, and a dynamo on stage.
For those of you who are fans or even those who are just discovering him, you’re in for a treat. This summer, Barrence Whitfield will be gracing the stage at the Collectibles Extravaganza & MusicCon. This grand event, scheduled from June 30 to July 2, 2023, is a veritable feast of music, film, and pop culture. Each day of the event is packed with various activities. On the opening day, the Ballroom Stage will host Sandy Netburn, a ventriloquist and singer, and Zilch – a Monkees tribute band. On Saturday, the event will host a retrospective interview by Jim Sullivan with Cherie Currie, Michael Des Barres, Butch Patrick, Micky Dolenz, and Richie Ramone. The Courtyard Stage will feature performances from Alicyn Packard, Charlie Farren, Rock n Soul All-Star Band with Guests, and The Fools.
Sunday continues the trend with more performances and retrospectives. Throughout the event, photo ops, autograph sessions, panels, and presentations will be abundant.
