Meet Dave Foley: From Kids in the Hall to NEComicCon, November 24-26, 2023

Dave Foley is an actor, stand-up comedian, director, producer and writer, best known for the comedy group (and sketch comedy show of the same name) The Kids in the Hall. Born on January 4, 1963, in Ontario, Canada, Foley dropped out of high school to pursue stand-up comedy and met Kevin McDonald at an improv class. They formed a comedy duo and later joined forces with Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson to create The Kids in the Hall. Foley played various characters on the show, such as Hecubus, Bruno Puntz Jones, Mr. Heavyfoot, Jocelyn and Lex.

Dave Foley left The Kids in the Hall in 1995 to join the cast of NewsRadio, a sitcom created by Paul Simms who was a fan of Foley’s work. He played Dave Nelson, the news director of a radio station who had to deal with eccentric staff and management. The show was critically acclaimed but suffered from low ratings and frequent time slot changes. It lasted for five seasons until 1999. Foley also voiced Flik, an inventive ant who tries to save his colony from grasshoppers, in Pixar’s box office hit A Bug’s Life 1998.

Dave Foley continues to work on different projects as not only an actor and writer, but also as a producer and director. He’s appeared in the movies Blast from the Past (1999), Monkeybone (2001), The Wrong Guy (1997) (which he also co-wrote and co-produced), and Postal (2007) (which he also directed). He’s voiced characters in animated shows such as The Brak Show, Kim Possible, Dan Vs., Skylanders Academy and Star Trek: Lower Decks. He’s played host for Celebrity Poker Showdown and appeared as a recurring character in shows such as Will & Grace, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, The Middle, and Young Sheldon. In 1996, he reunited with The Kids in the Hall for Brain Candy, and continued performing with the comedy troupe for Tour of Duty (2002) and Death Comes to Town (2010).
