Muppets cartoonist Guy Gilchrist creates magical “Rainbow Connection” for viral harp duo, The Harp Twins

As world-renowned illustrator best known as Jim Henson’s cartoonist for his work on the “Muppets” daily comic strip, Gilchrist is pleased to announce his collaboration with Camille and Kennerly Kitt for their upcoming music video premiere this Friday (January 21) on the duo’s YouTube channel (CamilleandKennerly).

The Harp Twins, who are known for their unique harp arrangements and unusual harp covers of hits by artists such as Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, and Metallica, have amassed over 2.5 million fans on social media and over 135 million views. The viral duo will utilize Gilchrist’s illustrations to establish the magical setting for their rendition of the Paul Williams/Kenneth Ascher masterpiece.

“When we started arranging this song for two harps and voices, we were thinking about how incredible it would be to include Guy,” stated the sisters who had formed a friendship with Gilchrist over the course of several Comic-Cons where the duo and illustrator both appeared.

“I was so honored to be able to work on this project with them,” says Gilchrist. “Not only are the girls incredibly talented and have a promising future in front of them, but it allowed me to revisit <this> in a new and unique way and help introduce it to a whole new generation.”

“We love the idea that art and music are magic,” state Camille and Kennerly. “There is something so special and poignant about <this project> and we hope that our arrangement and video capture that magical spirit. In a world that seems to be becoming increasingly negative, we hope that our music will bring positivity, love, and light…like the songs says, ‘someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.’”

Originally sang by Kermit the Frog, and performed by pioneering puppeteer Jim Henson in the 1979 film, The Muppet Movie touched a deep nerve with audiences and reached No 25 of the Billboard Hot 100, remained in the Top-40 charts for seven weeks, and was nominated for Best Original Song at the 52nd Academy Awards. Last year, the film was selected by the preservation by the Library of Congress in the National Recording Registry.

Both Muppets cartoonist Guy Gilchrist and the viral harp duo, The Harp Twins Camille and Kennerly Kitt will be at the NorthEast ComicCon & Collectibles Extravaganza March 11-13, 2022 offering Celebrity Photo Ops And Autographs and more!
