The Nervous Eaters are a legendary rock and roll band from Boston, MA, who pioneered the Boston underground garage/punk rock scene in the late 70’s with their original and edgy songs.
The band was founded by Steve Cataldo, a talented singer and guitarist from the North Shore of Boston. Inspired by the raw sounds of Link Wray, early Chicago Blues masters like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, and British guitar heroes like Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page, the Nervous Eaters crafted a unique sound that has thrilled audiences for decades.
The band’s original lineup featured:
- Steve Cataldo on lead vocals and lead guitar
- Stanley Clarke on vocals and rhythm guitar
- Rob Skeen on vocals and bass guitar
- Jeff Wilkinson on drums
They made their debut in March of 1976 at the iconic nightclub “The Rat” in Boston, the epicenter of the Boston rock scene. Managed by Jimmy Harold, the owner of “The Rat”, they released their first two singles under his label, Rat Records.
Their first single, “Loretta”, quickly became one of Boston’s most beloved rock and roll anthems, while their second single, the punk classic “Just Head”, captivated audiences with its provocative lyrics and raw power.
The Nervous Eaters were one of the most successful rock & roll bands in the Northeast, playing at venues across the United States and Europe. They have shared the stage with iconic acts such as Iggy Pop, Squeeze, The Go Go’s, The Pretenders, The Police, The Ramones, and The Split Enzs. Their songs have been covered by an array of bands from different countries and genres, including The Fleshtones, Teenage Head, The Nomads, Radio Birdman, and Guitar Wolf.
In 1980, Ric Ocasek of The Cars produced a demo for the band that was signed by Elektra Records and released nationally. They’ve also recorded for other labels such as Penimman Records, No Tomorrow Records, and Ace of Hearts Records. In 2021, the band joined Wicked Cool Records, a label founded by Little Steven Van Zandt of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. In 2022, they’re set to release new songs that promise to showcase their timeless rock and roll spirit.
The current lineup features Steve Cataldo on lead guitar and lead vocals, Brad Hallen on bass and back-up vocals, Adam Sherman on rhythm guitar and back-up vocals, and David McLean on drums. After more than four decades of music history, the Nervous Eaters are still rocking hard and ready to take the stage once again this summer!
